Our Feeders

We bought an RSPB Shepard's Crook Feeder Pole and currently have the following feeders set up:
  • Nyjer feeder - OK so it's not really a Nyjer feeder as it has too big an aperture, but that doesn't seem to deter the finches!
  • Suet Balls - popular with the sparrows, Great Tits and Blue Tits. Starlings feast on them too when the RSPB Coconut Nibble runs out.
  • Seed Tray - We put seed mix and sunflower hearts on the seed tray. It doesn't last long as it is often raided by the Magpie, Wood Pigeon or the Collared Dove. If we can keep it topped up it is used by our semi-resident Bullfinches.
  • Water tray - It's surprising how many birds need a drink. As it's below the feeders it is unfortunately often defecated in - but that doesn't seem to stop the birds drinking! Yuck!
  • RSPB Coconut Nibble - Very popular with the Great Spotted Woodpecker (to whom it seems to be like Chocolate), Nuthatches and Tits and especially Starlings which have become somewhat of a pest, consuming a full Coconut in a day (at a cost of £1 each). Hence we tend to only put a new Coconut Nibble out in the evening as our Woodpecker has worked out it can come for it's supper at around 7:30pm.
  • Peanut Feeder - Added on Sunday, June 17th, this is already popular with the Great Spotted Woodpecker and our juvenile Great Tits and Blue Tits.
